A city tour will not be completed without a visit to the Bo-kaap. Formerly known as Cape Malay, the bo-kaap origins date back in 1960’s when numerous huurhusjes ( rental houses) were built and rented to slaves who were known as Cape Malay. The were brought from Malesia, Indonesia and rest of Africa to work in the Cape. Bo-kaap is more popular for its colourful houses.
